Feeling Anxious?

Feeling anxious because of the COVID-19 pandemic? It's alright; it's only a natural response. A "human" response. A "sane" response. As Homo sapiens, we are hardwired to dislike uncertainty. In fact, we'd rather face a negative outcome than be in a proverbial cliffhanger- not knowing what will happen to us can induce primordial fear. In stark contrast, being “in control” is what makes us feel comfortable and safe.

No one could have predicted these challenging times, and they can undoubtedly be a disorienting experience.

While the world navigates through uncertainty, this one truth remains certain:

Ralph Waldo Emerson said once, "We become what we think about all day long." That's it. Plain simple. Your thoughts influence your actions, and your actions, in turn, influence your results. Your results influence your outcome.

If you think in positive terms and follow the guidelines of your country and the WHO such as self-isolating, good hygiene, and social distancing, then you have a high chance of riding this out and bouncing back to your old life. No matter what happens, knowing that you did your best under the circumstances can give you the confidence you need to keep moving forward. Do what you can and leave the rest to God.

Let this experience bring you closer to your family and loved ones. Let it be a much-needed opportunity for much-needed self-reflection in a busy world. Introspection can have surprising benefits and can help us answer the deep questions that many of us have been dancing around for so long.

The next time you feel anxious about being cooped up, smile, and hope for the best.

Stay safe. Stay strong. Stay responsible.
