2021 Honda Odyssey: Our top minivan pick

Honda is one of the best brands known for its quality and durability, and the Honda Odyssey is no different. With plenty of family-friendly features and excellent safety options, the 2021 Honda Odyssey is at the top of our minivans list. This year's model also gets a refreshed interior and exterior design, and the second-row seats now fold conveniently.  

An exciting feature that we like is what Honda calls "CabinTalk," which allows you to quickly talk with passengers in the 2nd and 3rd-row seats. Here's the best part:

If you're a parent, which you most probably would be for buying a car like this, you can even override your kids' headphones plugged into the "Rear Entertainment System". You know, in case you want to "say" something for your kids to listen better. 

How cool is that? 

Another cool feature is called "CabinWatch" which features a camera with night vision that lets you monitor the backseats, even in the dark. This feature is accessible through the touch screen display. Interior options include a 7-inch display which Honda calls "Digital Driver Information Interface" in front of the steering wheel, making it easier to navigate through your phone book, apps, sensors, and controls. You also get an 8 -inch touch screen display, fully compatible with Apple CarPlay and voice control search features. The expansive cargo area is also a great bonus, along with the comfortable cabin. 

An excellent comfort feature we love is what Honda refers to as "Magic Slide 2nd-Row Seats." With this option, 2nd-row seats can be moved toward the vehicle's center, making it easier to move a child in the second row within reach of the front passenger and provide easier access to the third row, even with two rear-facing child seats installed.

Ask any parent and they'd tell you that sounds like a life-saving option. 

As for performance, you get a 10-speed automatic transmission with a ​3.5-liter i-VTEC 24-valve SOHC V6 engine with what Honda calls Variable Cylinder ManagementTM (VCMTM). You're looking at 280 hp with 6000 rpm and a torque of 355Nm @4700rpm. The car is also packed with safety features such as knee airbags and driver-assist technology. Although we're not much impressed with the standard Vehicle Stability Assist (really, it's no longer something special in 2021), it's still good to have as a standard safety feature now with ABS and EBD, and you get a convenient tire pressure monitoring system, too.

An advanced safety feature is the "Collision Mitigation System," a form of autonomous braking that reduces the probability of frontal collision. You also get premium features such as Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) and Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM). Whether you're going to work or dropping your kids off at school, these safety features collectively enhance your road safety for you and your family. 

We love Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Following (LSF), which conveniently allows the car to adjust its speed during cruise control for a smoother ride. We hate it when cruise control is deactivated by a slowing vehicle, but with this adaptive option, you no longer have to worry about things like that. This is by no means a form of autonomous driving, but it surely makes the family's journey more convenient. 

Available trim levels in the UAE are LX, EX-L, and Touring. LX models have 18" alloy wheels, an 8" Touch Screen Display Audio, Apple CarPlay, Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), Magic Slide 2nd Row Seats, and other features.
