Mercedes EQS: A Game-Changer in Electric Luxury Vehicles

Yalla Deals Cars:

The first time I saw the Mercedes EQS, I was awestruck by its interior. With a refreshing take on the EV industry, this car is the luxury definition of an electric vehicle and, in many ways, beats Tesla in terms of interior quality. The EQS represents a significant shift in the automotive industry as more automakers embrace electric vehicles.

Confusing looks: The rear view looks like a Kia K5 rather than a Benz

Let's admit it: We all got bored with Tesla's dated designs, which have long been overdue for an overhaul. When will Tesla spruce up its models?

In stark contrast, the EQS is a unique electric luxury sedan that combines cutting-edge technology, sleek design, and premium comfort. Still, it's also a blend of EV luxury and high tech with a steep price to match (750,000 Dhs). The exterior looks alright, as I am not a fan of the rear lights (still better-looking than the Tesla), but the interior looks ultramodern. The EQS is loaded with cutting-edge technology that sets it apart from other electric vehicles on the market.

Out of this world interior: The best way to describe it is: Futuristic Luxury

One of the standout features of the EQS is what Mercedes calls the "MBUX Hyperscreen," which spans the ENTIRE dashboard and offers a fully digital, intuitive, and customizable user experience. This expansive touch screen, which looks straight out of a sci-fi movie, is a dream come true, at least for tech enthusiasts like myself. It is tilted for maximum comfort and ergonomics and caught my attention. This screen integrates with the vehicle's advanced driver-assist systems and allows you to control everything from the navigation system to the climate control using voice commands or touch inputs.

What is the best word to describe it?

FUTURISTIC LUXURY.

As for performance, at the heart of the EQS is a powerful all-electric powertrain that offers smooth, silent, and instantaneous acceleration. The EQS is powered by two electric motors that generate an impressive 523 hp, allowing it to accelerate from 0-100 mph in just 4.5s. This incredible performance is paired with a massive 100 kWh battery pack that provides an estimated driving range of up to 435 miles on a single charge. If you compare it to the Tesla Model S, however, the Tesla still wins by a wide margin in terms of performance. The Model S obliterates the EQS since it has 1021 hp (peak power) and can go from 0 to 100 kph in just 2.1s (1.99s for 0-60 mph)!

Standing in the Mercedes showroom, I looked at this beautiful fusion of luxury and EV, then asked about perhaps the most crucial feature of this car: self-driving. After all, if Auto Pilot is what makes Tesla stand out, surely an equivalent would be found in the EQS, right?

"Unfortunately, self-driving is still unavailable in the GCC." said the salesman at the Gargash Showroom when I asked him about the EQS self-driving system.

My heart sank, but then it dawned on me.

"So, let me get this straight. Please help me understand here. The car costs the full price of the EQS in Britain or the US, which has self-driving capabilities as the standout feature for this car, but the option is still not available here in the UAE. When would it be available then?" I asked.

"Probably in five years." replied the salesman, now slightly irritated at this unexpected but essential question.

What do I think of it?

The EQS has the "Driving Assistance Package," which has intelligently networked sensor systems that provide "partially automated" driving. This is still a far cry from self-driving (such as Tesla's Auto Pilot), even with the numerous driver assistance systems that support you as the situation requires (Ex: warns you if there is a risk of collision and intervenes if necessary).

There's no other way to put it: The lack of self-driving capabilities in the  GCC version of the EQS means that it's still no match for Tesla, at least in this part of the world.

The EQS is also designed with luxury and comfort in mind, offering premium materials, spacious and comfortable seating, and a range of advanced technologies that enhance the driving experience. In this video, the macchiato beige seats are covered with Nappa leather, and I found the seat cushions on the headrests to be an innovative idea for maximum comfort.

In conclusion, the Mercedes EQS is a game-changer in the world of electric luxury vehicles and would give competitors a push to up their game (Tesla, I am looking at you), especially with its interior. The cutting-edge technology, advanced aerodynamics, and premium comfort features offer a new level of luxury and performance that sets the EQS apart from the competition. Whether you're an environmentally conscious driver or simply a fan of premium luxury vehicles, the EQS is definitely worth a closer look.
