What are some of the essential home appliances needed for a new house? We recommend measuring the dimensions of your house first to make sure your device fits precisely. For instance, a common pitfall is to buy a five-burner gas cooker with a width of 90 cm if you have space for 80 cm. Once you have all the dimensions for the fridge, gas cooker, washing machine, etc., we recommend a little planning ahead by creating your own list and adding the measurements next to the items. While your list may be exhaustive, here are a few personal recommendations:
1- Fridge: Depending on your space, you can opt for your style from different types of fridges such as a top freezer, bottom freezer, or a side-by-side refrigerator. Make sure the style suits your kitchen needs and dimensions. Top freezers are the most common, whereas side-by-side models offer ample storage and more advanced features.
2- Washing Machine: Choose the correct type, such as a top-loading or a front-loading washing machine. Also, choose the suitable capacity for your family, such as 7kg or 10kg. If you choose a smaller capacity, you will waste your time and resources running multiple cycles.
3- Tumble Dryers: Choose if you want a vented or a condenser model. I recommend condenser models due to their incredible convenience; they can easily be transported and installed without the hassle of adding a hose to remove the moisture, as is the case with vented dryers. Make sure you have provisions for both. If you don't have enough space for a dryer, a workaround solution is to stack the dryer on top of the washing machine using certain adapters or additional furniture. DO NOT stack the washing machine on top of the dryer, and make sure both are safe and stable. In our case, one of us had a blacksmith customize a sturdy, solid steel "dryer table" in which the washing machine can elegantly go underneath the table, and the dryer can be safely placed on the table on top of the washing machine.
3- Dish Washer: Although considered to be "non-essential," a dishwasher is, in fact, indispensable for many people. If you have a portable dishwasher, choosing the right size (by measuring the space first) is necessary. Some homes don't have provisions for dishwashers, but many tenants have workaround solutions (such as placing it under the sink and using a Y-shaped splitter outlet) with the help of a plumber. However, make sure you have permission from the landlord before making any modifications.
4- Gas Cooker (or an electric cooker if you have a suitable electrical socket outlet): This one might be a little tricky. Once you figure out the gas range (5-burner or 4-burner), determine your needs for the oven. Most ovens usually have one oven with two racks for you to place your delicious cakes or pies. Meanwhile, premium ranges will have a larger oven with three racks or two ovens.
The list can include water dispensers, toasters, air fryers, kettles, microwave ovens, food processors, blenders, etc.
